Work And Holiday visa(Subclass462)

This visa allows young individuals to visit Australia for an extended holiday and work in the country to afford it. Consists of First, Second and Third Work and Holiday Visas.

 

A second Work and Holiday visa may be granted to those applicants who completed three months of specified work in listed regional areas of Australia while holding their first Work and Holiday visa. From 1 July 2019, a third Work and Holiday visa may be granted where the visa holder meets additional specified work requirements.

 

Requirements

Note that these are the minimum requirements to successfully apply for the 462 visa. You may be required to meet additional criteria based on your situation. Please contact us for information that is suited to your circumstances.

You must:

  • be outside of Australia when you apply for your first Work and Holiday Visa

  • aged between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application

  • hold a passport for one of the countries or regions listed below

  • Not be accompanied by any dependent children

List of eligible passports

You must be a citizen of and hold a valid passport from one of these countries:

  • Argentina

  • Austria

  • Chile

  • China, People's Republic of

  • Czech Republic

  • Ecuador

  • Greece

In addition to the above mentioned requirements, additional specifications apply for the second and third working holiday visas.

Requirements for Second work and holiday visa

  • have previously entered Australia on a subclass 462 visa. If you haven’t, see the first Work and Holiday visa

  • have completed 3 months of specified subclass 462 work on your first Work and Holiday visa

Requirements for Third work and holiday visa

From 1 July 2019, to be eligible for a third Work and Holiday visa, you must:

  • have previously held 2 subclass 462 visas (first and second) in Australia. If you haven’t, see the first Work and Holiday visa or second Work and Holiday visa

  • have undertaken, from 1 July 2019, 6 months of specified subclass 462 work while on your second subclass 462 visa, or a bridging visa in certain circumstances

  • on or after 1 July 2019, have completed six calendar months of specified work in regional Australia while on your second Work and Holiday visa

Chile

You must:

  • have tertiary qualifications or

  • have completed or been approved to do a third year of undergraduate university study


These are acceptable tertiary qualifications:


  • degrees

  • graduate certificates

  • Diplomas


These are not acceptable tertiary qualifications:


  • Certificate I to IV level qualifications

  • Senior Secondary Certificate of Education

Israel

You must hold a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education and have either:

  • completed military service or

  • be legally exempt from military service

Malaysia

You must:

  • have a tertiary qualification or

  • have completed 2 years of undergraduate university study


These are acceptable tertiary qualifications:


  • degrees

  • graduate diplomas

  • graduate certificates


These are not acceptable tertiary qualifications:


  • advanced diploma

  • diploma

  • certificate I-IV

  • senior Secondary Certificate of Education

Thailand

You must have either:

  • a diploma or

  • a degree

United States of America

You must have a Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or equivalent.

 

Citizens of countries that require a letter of support

You must PROVIDE a letter of support from your government (or alternative as stated below) if you are from:

  • Czech Republic (letter of introduction from your tertiary institution)

  • Ecuador

  • Greece

  • Hungary

  • Indonesia

  • Luxembourg

  • Malaysia (Good Conduct Certificate)

  • Peru

  • Poland

  • San Marino

  • Slovak Republic

  • Slovenia

  • Thailand

  • Turkey

  • Uruguay

  • Vietnam

You don't need to provide a letter of support if you are from:

  • Argentina

  • Austria

  • Chile

  • Israel

  • China, People's Republic of

  • Portugal

  • Spain

  • Singapore

  • the United States of America

Provide biometrics

You may be asked to provide biometrics (a scientific form of identification) as part of the application. Countries and visa subclasses included in the biometrics program will contain additional information.

Health insurance

The visa recipient is responsible for all their health costs while you are in Australia. They will not be covered by Australia’s national health scheme (Medicare) unless their country has a reciprocal health care agreement with Australia.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements-

 

  • Possess a passport from a select list of countries (see below for complete list)
  • Be aged 18 to 30 years old at the time of application
  • Not be accompanied by any dependent children
  • First Work and Holiday visa applicants: Must not have previously entered Australia on subclass 462 or subclass 417
  • Meet the education requirement
  • Health requirement
  • Character requirement
  • Have at least Functional English
  • Have a letter of support from your government if you are from one of the listed countries (see below)
  • Pay any outstanding debts to the Australian Government
  • Possess or have access to sufficient funds
  • Not have a previous application refused or had a visa cancelled
  • Sign the Australian values statement
