Contributory Aged Parent Visa (subclass 864)
An Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, or qualifying New Zealand citizen may bring their elderly parents to Australia on this permanent visa. With this visa, you are able to live permanently in Australia, where you are also able to work and study. You can sign up for Medicare, Australia's national health insurance programme. You must be the parent of an eligible child who is a citizen of New Zealand, Australia, or an Australian permanent resident.
When applying for this visa, you must not already be holding or have filed for a Sponsored Parent (Temporary) (Subclass 870) visa, and you must also be old enough to receive the age pension in Australia. Within five years of the day we issue this visa, you are free to make as many trips as you like to and from Australia. This is true so long as the travel authorisation on this visa is still in effect. The application for the visa must be made while you are in Australia but not in immigration clearance. Anyone applying for a visa on your behalf must be in Australia at the time of application, but they do not need to have completed immigration clearance.
